Nurse Director of Emergency Department Services

We are seeking an Nurse Director of Emergency Department Services for our community hospital in Des Moines, IA.

The ED Nurse Director will be responsible for the assessment, planning, maintaining, and evaluation of the delivery of care and development of all Emergency Department Services. The ED Nurse Director will maintain the operational aspects of all the ED Nursing Department. The ED Nurse Director will promote a coordinated, interdisciplinary working relationship with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the ED health care team. The ED Nurse Director will provide clinical nursing leadership, serving as a role model for the professional registered nurse by assessing, planning, coordinating and evaluating patient care activities. The ED Nurse Director is responsible for the management of the medical supplies, budget preparation for the department, evaluating the performance of staff, recruitment for the department, scheduling of staff, and maintaining and improving service quality. The ED Nurse Director works with the other team members who provide health care series to the patients to coordinate and manage the treatment processes. Also responsible to ensure excellent care to patients. Utilizes the nursing process for patient care. Utilizes leadership and management skills to support the philosophy, goals and objectives of the hospital.

Requirements

Demonstrate the ability to monitor the patientís physical/psycho/social/spiritual/cultural needs, patient-family education and discharge planning needs.
Facilitate employee unit in-services on new and existing policies, procedures, equipment and techniques for patient care.
Plan the budgetary requirements for short and long range needs of the department with the approval of Administration.
Maintain compliance with unit standard for patient care and quality assurance/improvements program.
Prepare and maintain 24-hour staffing schedule and make necessary adjustments to meet the staffing needs of the unit.
Participate in the educational process of staff while working collaboratively with staff educators to provide quality driven educational programs.
Maintain appropriate staffing. Conduct timely performance appraisals, ensure staff development and administers corrective action as appropriate
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois, currently certified in CPR
BSN required Masters Preferred but not required
4 years of clinical ED staff nursing experience
2-3 years management experience
Currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred.
