JOB SUMMARY: The employee health nurse functions as a member of the human resource department, with responsibilities in the areas of pre-employment and annual health assessments of volunteers and employees, education, health promotion programs and assisting in meeting all state and federal regulations that impact on Episcopal SeniorLife Communities employees and volunteers.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Perform pre-employment physicals on all prospective employees, making proper recommendations regarding employment.
• Maintain a record of employee health assessment due dates.
• Maintain appointment calendar for pre-placement physicals, schedule annual health screens, PPDs, HEP Bs, and follow-up appointments.
• Perform annual employee screenings, referring problems to appropriate medical personnel within 30 days of annual start date.
• Oversight and management of the Employee Influenza Administration, Tracking and Reporting to Department of Health for all regulated sites.
• Assess individual employee health status as the need arises (in conjunction with nurse practitioner when indicated).
• Work with third party vendor(s) to manage STD and Worker’s Comp coinciding with FMLA and/or PFL.
• Advocate and encourage preventative health care programs through encouraging employee education as indicated and follow up.
• Serve as a member of the Safety Committee, and lead as leader of the Wellness Committee.
• Over see and follow up with workers’ compensation and disability personnel to assess employee status and health condition as needed.
• Update immunizations and initiate mandated vaccines as per state/federal guidelines to employee on an annual and as needed basis.
• Make appropriate referrals for employee community resources as needed to facilitate ongoing medical care/maintenance of health as needed.
• Provide first aid, as necessary, to employees and volunteers.
• Review the volunteer health assessment form.
• Initiate mandated vaccines as per state/federal guidelines to volunteers.
• Work in conjunction with coordinator of volunteers in scheduling volunteer health screenings and maintaining volunteer files per requirements.
• Maintain supply of forms pertinent to employee health function.
• Manage supply inventory and associated budget in an ongoing basis
• Reinforce and teach various health promotion strategies (i.e. self-breast exam, diet and exercise principles, etc.) to employees/volunteers proactively.
• Promote staff/volunteer retention through assessment, intervention, evaluation and follow-up of employee health and well-being in a caring, supportive and confidential manner.
• Engage in and oversee special projects at the direction of administration.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to perform comprehensive physical exams and document accordingly.
Ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of basic personnel policies and state/federal guidelines. Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public.

EDUCATION: Current RN licensure in New York State.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in employee health or occupational health is preferred.

Performing duties of this job requires occasional sitting, walking, and standing. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
