Dear future Au pair We are the recent parents of a baby born in august 2008; His name is Nacho (Spanish nick-name for Ignacio). He is still a small baby but he is very happy and sociable and is already showing quite a character. He is very curious about anything going on. Our little family has another very special member, our dog “Zambo”, a very calm and well-behaved golden retriever. It’s important that you like dogs because “Zambo” will always be happy to have a pat and a walk. We live in Colmenarejo, a quiet village 35 km -aprox 20 miles away from Madrid city-centre. It’s an area with lots of countryside which is close to “El Escorial”( Historical town were most Spanish kings are buried ). Five walking minutes away from our house there is a University Campus (Universidad Carlos III; http://www.uc3m.es/uc3m/eng/index-eng.html; http://www.uc3m.es/uc3m/serv/ACC/admon.html), so transport to and from Madrid is very good with buses running every 10 minutes during the day and even at night during weekends. We also have a Sports centre very close, if you like sports. Both David and I work in Madrid city-centre. He is a Trader for a Shipping company and I am an advertising sales executive for a newspaper. David is 50% British and speaks to Nacho in English since he was born. I speak to Nacho in Spanish. One of the reasons for hiring an aupair is to help with the language. Of course he is a baby, but we believe it is important for him get used to English because it will be a wonderful gift for his future. After Christmas holidays I will be returning to work after 4 months off and we would need you to be here about 2nd January in order to spend one week together for all of us to get acquainted. On a normal week-day we leave home at about 7:45 hrs, so we would expect you to be with Nacho from 7:30 hrs till 15:30 hrs, this 8 hours, Monday to Friday. Your main tasks will be taking care of Nacho in the mornings, dress him, feed him, take him for a walk ( “Zambo” will show you his favourite routes), change the nappies, and to tell him lots and lots of stories in English . I will be working until 14:00 hrs, so in the afternoons Iw ill take care of Nacho so that you can attend Spanish lessons or do whatever you prefer. We can go shopping or for a ride, if feel like it. We need you to have a driving license just in case an emergency took place. We have 2 cars, and you could use one if necessary. From time to time we will ask you to take care of Nacho at night so that we can go out for dinner, of course having previously checked your agenda. We live in a 3floor semidetached house with garden and a small pool which is very nice in summer months. The bottom floor is connected to the garden and has a bathroom and big room we the parties take place (or used to take place prior to Nacho’s arrival). On the ground floor there is the kitchen, the living-room and another bathroom. The top floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. One of the rooms would be yours, were we can place a TV , if you wish . You will share the bathroom with Nacho, but we think he still is small for using it on his own, don’t you think? Twice a week a very kind lady named Vily, comes in and takes care that the house is clean and tidy and that clothes are ironed. The rest of the week we try to keep the house going. You will also see Grandma and Grandad call in regularly since they live nearby. As we hope you can see, we are looking for someone who likes and wants to live in a family. Your main task will be to take care of Nacho and to help at home like the rest, in the same way you would do it at your home. The main aspect is that we all feel comfortable and make a good experience for you and for us.
