The Histologic technician is responsible for properly preparing and staining e.g. immunohistochemical procedures, specials surgical tissue specimens in the preparation of microscopic slides for diagnosis by the pathologists. The Histologic technician will maintain the morgue prior to, provide assistance during, and clean after autopsies. Histologic technician follow laboratory policies and procedures in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, . The Histologic technician determines that tests results meet requirements of the quality control program and if not met, repeats test and ensures results are approved for delivery to the Pathologists following department policy and maintaining all necessary records and documentation. The Histologic technician is expected to utilize critical thinking skills and complex problem solving in the resolution of clinical, technical and instrument problems.
