PURCHASING MANAGER- Normal, IL
Fast growth automotive parts supplier needs strong people and project skills for newly created position. Reports to GM. Manage 30MM budget. One direct report.
DUTIES:
The Purchasing Manager plans, supervises 1 buyer and directs the activities involved in procurement from outside sources for this fast pace engineered/assembly operation.
Responsible for maintaining accurate book inventory records and inventory levels for all purchased items and for purchase price negotiations and cost savings methods.
Participate in the establishment of policies and procedures; expediting shipments; establishment of economic order quantities commensurate with the unit value of items purchased and requirements of production. Work closely with Materials Manager.
Maintains a direct link between purchasing and accounting to assure accuracy of transactions entered into the general ledger and is responsible for the integrity of the purchasing database (part number and description accuracy, vendor and quote files and open order maintenance).
Manage vendor sourcing, supplier selection, supplier relations and contract negotiations.
Coordinate material supply demands for continued optimum production requirements.
Interact with all department heads to assure material requirements, quality products and customer timelines.
Helps monitor assembly processes with production and engineering.
Work with departments to reduce purchase costs and improve inventory guidelines.
Maintain effective computer systems, methods and training to optimize purchasing department standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
BS Degree in business or technical related field
5- 10+ years of purchasing/sourcing experience in automotive industry.
CPIM, CPM, ISM or APICS highly desirable
Hands on manufacturing cradle to grave experience.
Experience purchasing: metals, stampings, forgings, machinery, rubber, plastic, etc.
Global supplier/vendor selection experience including audits.
MRO, KanBan, Lean experience
Experience with QAD, QSI systems.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Strong computer skills.
