Position Description Homeport of vessel is Adak, Alaska. Test and operational missions vary in duration. Crew members may be required to spend up to 60 days or more in onboard assignment to support mission requirements. Although onboard assignment rotations are planned as approximately 60 days in duration, the actual length may be affected by mission requirements, weather, transportation availability, and other factors. Sea Duty Assignment Benefits apply to onboard assignments and vary based on length and type of crew quarters assigned. The X-Band Radar Systems Engineer must understand X-band radar systems design and development. Will work with SBX (Sea-based X-band Radar) interface documentation and internal Boeing and subcontractor specifications. Must be able to work with the subcontractor engineers of the X-band radar and project systems engineers to avoid/resolve issues resulting from subcontractor or systems level modeling and analysis. Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Performs analyses for safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues. Works under minimal direction. Must possess a detailed technical and operational understanding of missile defense X-band radar hardware and software interfaces both within the SBX and external to Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD). Will review interface documentation relating to X-band sensor management. Must have excellent writing and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively in a dynamic, multiple organization, collaborative engineering environment. Responsibility is to provide subject matter expertise on the SBX X-band radars with emphasis on radar performance analysis and interfaces with GMD elements. Will be a critical point of technical contact o-board the SBX with X-band radar contractors and other vessel personnel and will be expected to provide detailed answers to X-band radar technical questions. Experience in the command and control and missile defense is a plus. GMD knowledge preferred. SBX knowledge a plus. This position requires extensive time on board the SBX with home location to be Huntsville, AL. This is a rotational position between the SBX vessel and the Huntsville, AL GMD work site.
