PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to provide overall management for a set of project managers within the Project Office. The PM TL in this role will be responsible for ensuring compliance to documented standards and processes, along with overall management responsibilities for the PM resources within the team. This includes goal setting, performance reviews, and training plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Individual Performance – setting targets, assessing and reporting performance, coaching as required, addressing performance issues.
Writing and delivering mid-year and year-end performance evaluations
Providing guidance to team members in relation to required / suggested training
Staffing Levels – Monitoring resource requirements and taking action to expand or contract resources on the team.
Resource Assignment – Workload balancing and assigning of PMs to new opportunities.
Project Management Methodology - Input to changes to Project Management Methodology and responsible for team member adherence to Project Management methodology.
Ensure creation of accurate project binders, approvals on mandatory artifacts and overall audit compliance. Publish regular audit reports on PM adherence to methodology and take corrective action as required
Project Escalation – Acting as an escalation point for projects within portfolio
Timeline and Resource input to new business opportunities
Input to new processes or process changes (i.e.Changepoint, SDLC) affecting the commercial project management team.
Provide Project Office and Sr. Management with consistent and accurate project details and reports as per outlined schedule (status reports, dashboard, planned vs actual)
Work with Finance to ensure that each project has a project code and that projects are properly categorized as capital or expense initiatives
Work with Finance to ensure that all billable efforts are properly invoiced
Approve time cards for all direct reports and approve invoices for contracted resources on a monthly basis
Approve expense requests, training requests
Initiating administrative activities to support new and existing employees
Initiate exit activities for exiting employees
Provide input into estimates and scheduling of incoming work packages and ensure accurate PM assignment prior to commencement of work
Project Document Review and approval, including ensuring artifacts conform to published standards, are accurate and clear (project plans, iteration plans, PDS, etc)
Ensure Project Managers are consistently issuing change controls for any changes to schedule, cost, scope and based on resource availability
Monitor projects to ensure completion of required workflow and project maintenance steps within Changepoint
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Must have 5-7 years of Project Management experience with demonstrable results.
Must have 5-10 years IT experience in any of the following areas: Development, Support, Testing, Project Management or Maintenance
Expert knowledge of PMI’s approach to Project Management and demonstrated successful completion of an advanced Project management course.
Strong people management skills and prior experience.
PMP designation or equivalent is required.
Position will require minimal travel to sites across GTA.
Excellent knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle and Project Management Methodologies.
Excellent track record conducting performance/stress testing
Excellent knowledge in MS Project, Office, Visio and MS Excel.
