This organization is a leading manufacturer of steel components supporting a variety of industries.
Requirements:
Solid Supervisory Experience in Steel Manufacturing Environment – presses, stamping, metal forming, welding, casting
Willingness to work swing shift: 6am-2pm, M-F
Union Environment Experience preferred (not required)
Supervisory Experience – position will have 12-15 direct reports (hourly)
Responsible for the first-line supervision of the forging department including heating and upset forging with accountability for results in terms of costs, methods, quality and quantity of production, personnel, safety and housekeeping within the department.
Under direction of the Plant Manager:
1. Maintain thorough knowledge of processes and equipment within the department and an understanding of the overall process, develop and recommend improvements.
2. Monitor and promote quality procedures, identify and resolve quality problems expeditiously
3. Identify potential or existing equipment problems, assist operators to resolve or report to maintenance department or die room; re-assign workers during down-time
4. Schedule and assign work to meet production requirements with the best utilization of available manpower and equipment
5. Comprehend and complete required reports
6. Prepare status report to ensure smooth transition to next shift
7. Maintain an efficient workforce, monitor, train, motivate, and develop to optimize their performance and their personal and technical growth, and ensure compliance with company standards, rules, and regulations.
8. Audit and sign timecards for employees within area of responsibility to verify accuracy
9. Recommend for hire, fire, acknowledge or discipline as necessary. Document incidents for the record with memo or appropriate forms such as change of job title or shift, injury, damage to equipment, violation of a rule or regulation, request for time off, and failure to perform to standards.
10. Certify or disqualify employees assigned to new positions
11. Ensure that work area are maintained in a clean, orderly, safe condition
12. Perform other duties as assigned
Experience with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing preferred
This is a highly visible position that can lead to a variety of management positions within the organization.
