6+ months temporary assignment, Waltham
Description: The selected individual will become a member of a team applying cellular, molecular, and biochemical approaches to progress novel target opportunities in cancer drug discovery. Specifically candidates will join a group of scientists engaged in the development of biochemical assays for HTS and secondary and SAR screening efforts. These efforts will ultimately lead to the identification of lead compounds, which will be further optimized to produce drug candidates for the clinic. The individual will assist with protein production, purification and characterization. The majority of proteins will be expressed in mammalian cells. Basic experience with protein biochemistry techniques such as affinity chromatography and gel electrophoresis is recommended. Familiarity with FPLC equipment would be a plus.
Major Responsibilities: - Mammalian cell culture, cell transfection. - PCR, cloning/subcloning - Protein purification (mainly his- or GST- tagged for affinity purification), protein characterization, i.e. SDS-PAGE, western blot, protein concentration- Maintain clear records of experimental work
Minimum Requirements:BS/ MS in biochemistry or related fieldSome experience in protein production and characterizationAbility to work in a team-oriented environmentPreferred Background:Biochemistry, enzymology, familiarity with Cancer Biology and drug discovery
