The successful candidate will play an integral role in Pacific Biosciences Enzymology group and will be responsible for the characterization of mutant proteins, using state of the art protein characterization methods. The individual will have knowledge of enzyme kinetics, including steady state and transient analysis and must understand enzyme substrate interactions. The selected candidate will mentor a team of protein scientists as well as provide scientific and technical contributions in the characterization and development of mutant enzymes used for DNA sequencing products. The successful applicant will conduct active lab research on an independent basis. The individual will be able to analyze complex data, interpret and integrate experiment results within project objectives. The selected candidate will be well versed in protein biochemical and protein biophysical laboratory activities, including up to date knowledge of literature, experimental record keeping, data analysis and reporting. The individual will also play a critical role in defining the strategic objectives of the protein engineering program and will act as a mentor to other group members. The successful candidate will have a proven leadership track record and will show aptitude towards developing protein science staff. Requirements Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry or related scientific discipline with a minimum of three to five years of experience in protein characterization, preferably having worked with polymerases and within the Biotechnology industry. The ideal applicant has an in-depth understanding of the biophysics of protein characterization and the current state-of-the-art literature in the field. Technically proficient in general laboratory procedures (biochemistry/some molecular biology) and use of spectroscopic/spectrometric equipment. Knowledge of molecular biology basics is a plus.
