Position Description Regularly operate forklifts and other motorized equipment* to move, position and load semi-trailers and scrap containers and to load and unload reusable material to and from such items as vehicles and flats. Repair, reinforce and construct scrap containers as required. Operate trash compactor and rotary head forklift to dispose of non-hazardous waste. Setup and operate gas and/or electric cutting equipment such as single or multiple nozzle semi-automatic flame cutters or plasma arc cutting equipment to facilitate salvaging. * This equipment is limited to use within the reclamation areas. 1. Sort surplus material and determine whether materials or items will be scrapped, salvaged or sent to the surplus store for resale. 2. Operate power shears, balers, cranes, shredders and other reclamation equipment necessary to facilitate the disposition of company and government surplus material and scrap. 3. Identify and check Government tools, Company tools, etc. against paperwork and make disposition in accordance with established procedures. 4. Properly reroute or return misrouted and incorrectly tagged material to the proper organization. 5. Use power and hand tools such as hammers, saws, wrenches, etc. 6. Prepare incoming and outgoing trailers and containers. 7. Process paper work as necessary. 8. Check motive equipment and report required maintenance. 9. Work with and assist chip recovery operator as required. 10. Perform duties associated with other recycling programs such as paper recycling disposition of used fuel and precious metals
Competencies Ability to use and operate power and hand tools, mechanical aptitude, ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to be flexible in response to changing circumstances or conditions. Ability to attend to and verify the accuracy and completeness of detailed information. Willingness to take independent action, including moving quickly and direcetly to complete the task at hand and not waiting to be instructed to complete job activities. Computer knowledge, working with speadsheets and using mathematic calculations.
Education and/or Experience High School Graduate or Equivalent, Vocational Education or College a plus.
Other Job related information Prefer experience with salvage or reclamation tools. Awareness to hazardous materials. This job could be either 1st or 3rd shift.
