The Smart Loco engineering team provides innovative solutions to enable business growth in the locomotive market. Products include Trip Optimizer, SmartBurn, Locomotive Data Sharing System, SmartSand, and Smart Throttle. This team is involved in the complete design cycle - customer requirements, concept design, detail design, validation, supplier qualification, and field support. Responsible for defined work or projects with moderate complexity. Follows an individual work plan and meets day-to-day short-term objectives. Has the ability to resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Essential Functions
Execute, with guidance from senior engineering resources, the analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies or systems that meet business standards and program/product requirements.
Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
Document and communicate results of technical data generated.
Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
Share information and promote open dialogue.
Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
Responsible for subsystem design, documentation, validation and field support of Smartloco products.
Responsible for flowing subsystem requirements to component engineering and software engineering, while accounting for given process capabilities.
Responsible for generating system design specifications, FMEA's, Critical to Quality scorecards, traceability matrix, validation plans & procedures.
Responsible for implementing design in Matlab and/or specification for integration w/ locomotive control system.
Position will require working with other engineering organizations.
Position will require interfacing with customers, marketing, sales, suppliers and manufacturing Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Eligibility Requirements

You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States

Desired
Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering
Experience in design, integration, and validation of embedded control systems
Experience working with Matlab, Matrix X or other modeling software
Understanding of Design For Six Sigma and Design For Reliability Processes, Tools and Methodologies Quality training (ISO, CMM), Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification
Experience that demonstrates excellent customer service
Experience with locomotive operations - maintenance, dispatch, crew, and signaling
Experience with train handling and dynamics BSEE or BSCE desired
Familiarity with design, test and analysis tools and systems
Strong oral and written communication skills - Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
PC proficiency
