Position Description Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer supporting multiple projects (research, missile defense, commercial airplanes, and homeland security) within the Advanced Modeling, Simulation and Experimentation (AMSE) Modeling and Simulation Technology (MST) team. The candidate will support all stages of modeling and simulation development under the direction of team leaders with emphasis upon requirements, algorithm development, test, benchmarking, and anchoring. Development processes and documentation tools vary from project to project and the candidate must be able to move from development environment to development environment with ease. When faced with a task, the candidate is expected to make an effort at a solution and bring the proposed solution to team members and senior personnel for evaluation and critique. The candidate is expected to learn about a simulation domain sufficiently to mine data from subject matter experts. The candidate will be at ease in Unix and Windows operating system environments; capable of writing shell scripts; using a mainstream editor such as vi, gvim, nedit, or emacs; using CM tools such as CVS, Razor, or SCCS; and capable of reading and writing UML. The candidate will be at ease comparing simulation results with test results (benchmarking) and comparing results between two or more simulation models (anchoring). This effort will require defining measures of effectiveness, identifying tolerances, data manipulation, model setup and execution, results visualization, and documentation. The candidate will be responsible for preparing success criteria, identifying test cases, documenting test descriptions, and performing analyses in support of simulation V&V. The candidate will know the scientific method and be comfortable using it for identifying and solving problems. The candidate will be capable of independently analyzing simulation run results to isolate root cause. Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
