Compensation: $90K - $110K / Year Minimum Education: Bachelors Job Type: Full Time Email this job to yourself or to a friend Click Here to Apply OnlineYou build it to break it. You like seeing how things work. And you like making them work better. A Software Design Engineer in Test combines the "building" aspect of software design engineering with the "breaking" aspect of software test engineering. Perhaps more than any other software engineering position, Software Design Engineers in Test enjoy tremendous job variety and the opportunity to design wide-reaching tools.
The Windows Embedded Test team needs Lead SDETs. We deliver the Embedded version of Windows that run devices like Robotics, Set Top Boxes, Automatic Teller Machines, Cash Registers, Kiosks (think CoinStar & Kodak), Slot Machines (think Ballys), Medical Equipment, Digital Billboards, Oil Platform monitoring equipment, Industrial Automation, etc…You can think of our OS as the platform of choice for the devices you don't want Windows Client or Server and where footprint, robustness and uptime are among the top criteria.
Our mission is to provide the Windows experience on devices that the Windows Client/Server skus can't operate- like diskless systems, or with a 32MB footprint for example. We have a stable team, a very profitable product and we're innovating in this space. We're also a small product team with big ambitions; this means you will be empowered with the responsibility and an opportunity to make a great impact in the Entertainment & Devices Division and a significant impact in the lives of the end users of our devices.
What I'm looking for in a Lead:
I'm looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Lead for a team of 5 engineers. A successful candidate for this position will have proven team management skills, broad technical interests, strong coding and debugging skills, is a quick learner and who isn't afraid of jumping into new and unknown territories to help ship the product. Candidates should have several years of experience in shipping complex products out of which at least one year should be in a lead role. In-depth knowledge and coding skills in C or C++ or C# are required. Good understanding of software engineering processes is a must for this position.
I need strong problem solvers. You will be delivering solutions not just for the Test team but also our internal and external partners. There's opportunity to travel if that's interesting to you, there's also lots of opportunity to engage directly with OEM devs though this isn't a requirement.
What's Cool About Our Team:
One of the coolest aspects of this job is the camaraderie and small team atmosphere. But the best part is the variety because you'll develop a working knowledge of many Windows features; you'll develop new technologies and suite of tools to address concerns unique to the Embedded space. You also get to interact with OEM developers customers through a variety of means, everything from MSDN whitepapers to on-site customer visits or blogging.
Another cool aspect to the job is the chance to develop solutions that 'just work' for a wide variety of markets and HW platforms mentioned earlier - like Single Board Computers, Cash Registers, Arcade Machines, TV-PCs, Medical Heart Monitoring devices, etc...
My team is focused on creating a great work-life balance and currently is working a compressed work-week schedule that results in a 'Flex day'. Feel free to schedule an informational to find out more about our team.
Job Requirements:
• Strong C, C++ or C# coding skills, debugging skills.
• Knowledge of testing processes such as test automation, code coverage, developing test plans, test case development and Engineering Excellence best practices.
• At least 1 year experience managing people for their growth and career development.
