SCOPE:
Perform functions to plan, control and direct R & D activities to accomplish product development and financial objectives, making decisions based on conclusions for which there is little precedent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Direct all activities related to the research and development of hardware and software products including product creation, analysis, development, prototyping, and testing.
2. Manage the development of the division’s full line of products, working with domestic and international operations staffs.
3. Review and validate problem reports, evaluate enhancement requests and determine appropriateness and priority of requests, based on expectations for user satisfaction and marketability. Determine process and create solutions to suit program and customer requirements. Schedule, monitor and report on the progress of enhancement projects. Evaluate and maintain the quality control process to ensure product compliance with established product goals and expected standards.
4. Develop and implement new policies, processes, procedures and systems to ensure an efficient and effective product development.
5. Promote cooperation and communication between the various groups within the division to ensure operational efficiency and division profitability.
6. Communicate performance metrics; evaluate performance, coach and counsel employees. Maintain harmonious employee/employer relationship
7. Promote the Division, its products, services and relationships with key and potential customers.


Requirements
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Computer, business software, usual peripherals and common office equipment and the organization’s line of equipment and software for the purposes of demonstration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continuous lifting of very lightweight materials, some lightweight lifting, and occasional lifting of average to heavy weight materials of over 60 lbs. Occasional pushing, pulling, reaching, upper body and arm rotation and climbing. Some bending, stooping and standing. Continuous sitting. Occasional use of hazardous chemicals.

HIRING PREFERENCES:
BS degree in Engineering field, MS preferred
7+ years experience leading a high tech R&D team
