• Days; M-F
A. Inpatient Activities
• Conduct inpatient rounds independently and in conjunction with the attending physicians, and record status in the medical record.
• Manage daily patient problems as they arise and document actions implemented in their resolution.
• Facilitate collection of inpatient charges.
• Perform inpatient consults when fellows are off-site or service is extremely busy.
B. Outpatient Activities
• Triage all consults to Gastroenterology, and determine appropriate disposition.
• Assess endoscopy patients to determine in advance the need for MAC vs conscious sedation.
• Perform primary-medical exams (PME's), consults and follow-up visits and dictates progress notes into the medical record.
• Serve as the liaison for new patient referrals to the department from outside physicians requiring the following:
1. Assess patient for protocol eligibility.
2. Coordinate patient appointments with physician availability.
3. Coordinate more advanced admissions as needed by the patient and as dictated by training.
4. Assist with the management of unscheduled patients.
5. Facilitate scheduling of special procedures with the appropriate department, (i.e., CT guided aspirates, fine needle aspirations, ultrasounds, etc).
6. Collect patients test results and presents them to the attending physicians.
7. Communicate with patients on behalf of physicians about biopsy results.
• EDUCATION
Required: Master's Degree in Nursing. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/03. Graduate education and related Board of Nurse Examiner ( BNE) authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and/or patient population

Required: Three (3) years clinical nursing
Preferred: Some experience in gastrointestinal medicine.
