Position Summary –
The successful candidate will be assigned to projects involving the design, development, and production of AC and DC power and frequency converters. These designs will range from 2 to 150KVA and will include three phase, twelve pulse rectification with PFC and 50-800 Hz output frequencies. Required skills will include digital, analog and magnetic circuit design. A strong background in the design of digitally controlled power electronics using embedded microcontrollers and DSP technology would be a plus. BSEE (MSEE preferred) with 3+ years directly related experience.
Principal Duties and Areas of Responsibility –
·Responsible for performing engineering work and applied research in the development of
state of the art power conversion products
·Generate new product concepts and perform feasibility studies, including trade-offs, cost analyses, and simulations as required to assess the technical and economic viability
of the concepts
·Develop detailed engineering specifications for new high power converter products
·Perform system level and detailed circuit design of power electronic circuits and associated control and interface circuits to meet the requirement of the engineering specification
·Develop and analyze control strategies and algorithms for power converters and either implement the control algorithms using hardware and software techniques or provide detailed algorithm specifications and guidance to software developers responsible for implementation.
·Conduct tests, analyze test data, and write test reports to record operating performance and provide data to support product compliance with customer or internal specifications and applicable third party standards.
·Keep informed on the latest devices, techniques and technical developments related to power electronics
Qualifications -
·A degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent and at least 3 years of power conversion design experience. An advanced degree with thesis work in a directly relevant field is an asset and may substitute for some industry experience.
·Design experience with three-phase IGBT converters as used in large uninterruptible power supplies, active rectifiers and filters, frequency converters or variable frequency motor drives. Experience with three phase grid-tie inverters is an asset
·Requires knowledge and experience in modern control techniques for three-phase converters, modern PWM techniques (e.g. space vector modulatio
Consider these questions and qualifiers when applying:
1) Do you have a degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent and at
least 3 years of power conversion design experience?
2) Are you Familiar (working knowledge) with digital logic design and software design practices?
Do you have NO MORE than 5-10 years job experience, at least half of which needs to
be related to High Frequency (9Hz-200Hz) PWM design work?
4} Do you have Experience with Military related programs, such as MIL-STD-704 and/or MIL-STD-1399, and environmental standards such as RTCA-160 and/or MIL-STD-810.
5} Do you have Design experience with three-phase IGBT converters as used in large uninterruptible power supplies, active rectifiers and filters?
6) Knowledge and experience in modern control techniques for three-phase converters, modern PWM techniques (e.g. space vector modulation), and digital control techniques. Experience with high performance DSP control of electrical machines is an asset. Ability to code (or at a minimum review) control algorithms in the C programming language is an asset..
7) Do you have some experience at power levels of 3 kVA or higher using IGBT power devices and controllers using DSP or similar microprocessors as logic circuits.
