Worker's Compensation Specialist 1 - Dispute Resolution Specialist Worker's Compensation Division - This position is located in downtown Madison , Wisconsin. Job Announcement Code: 08-01762 Deadline: Saturday August 9th, 2008 Salary Information: Starting salary is $31,933 per year, plus excellent benefits. (Note for current state employees: This position is in pay schedule 12, range 04. Pay and benefits upon appointment for current or former state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code and/or collective bargaining agreement.) This position is in the Profession Social Services bargaining unit. A six-month probationary period is required. Special Note: Candidates who previously took the Worker's Compensation Specialist 1 exam in 2007 will need to take this exam in order to be considered for current opportunities. Job Duties: Answer substantive and procedural questions regarding the law and the worker's compensation claims process by telephone, in person and with written correspondence; resolve claim disputes without a formal hearing; contact parties by mail or telephone to clarify ambiguous or confusing problems or disputed situations; review litigated claims and make oral or written recommendations to resolve the dispute; ensure prompt payment of benefits due; provide information & instruction to carriers and employers; analyze complex medical reports and estimate permanent partial disability payments in accordance with statutory provisions and administrative rule. Knowledge Required: Skill in: effective written and oral communications; dispute resolution; Ability to: provide assistance and consultation; read, interpret and apply complex statutes and administrative rules; handle stressful and volatile situations; make difficult and unpopular decisions; work with diverse groups and individuals. Knowledge of: dispute resolution methods, principles and techniques; problem solving and conflict resolution techniques; basic mathematics to perform payment calculations; complex medical terminology. How to Apply: An examination is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9th, 2008. Exams are offered in 14 locations throughout the state. This means you do not need to register in advance for this exam.
