The Board of Trustees invites applications and nominations for the position of Chancellor, the CEO for the San Francisco Community College District. The Chancellor reports to an elected seven-member Board of Trustees. The Board is seeking a Chancellor who is a recognized educational leader and/or an individual who has achieved distinction, or has accomplished significant positive advances in a related field, and whose priority is student success. The successful candidate should be an involved leader, who possesses the energy and vision to guide the activities of a complex, multicultural, and multipurpose community college district.

City College of San Francisco, a comprehensive community college, serves the diverse adult population of the City and County of San Francisco, California. City College, established in 1953, serves over 100,000 students annually at 11 campuses and more than 100 additional sites around the city. The College is staffed by a dedicated 2,500 faculty, 950 classified staff, and 50 administrators, and has a total annual budget of more than $185 million.

San Francisco, consistently voted “My Favorite City” by U.S. and international travelers (there were over 16 million visitors in 2006), is a cosmopolitan city of 800,000 people. Located on the hilly tip of a peninsula in Northern California, it is bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west, San Francisco Bay to the north and east, and Silicon Valley to the south.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

California state-mandated minimum requirements for the position of Chancellor are an earned master’s degree from an accredited institution and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the Chancellor’s assignment or equivalent.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to the California state-mandated minimum requirements, the City College of San Francisco is seeking candidates that also meet the following qualifications:

1. An appropriate educational background, preferably an earned doctorate from an accredited institution;

2. At least 7 years of progressively advancing senior executive level administrative experience within a large complex urban postsecondary educational institution, preferably a community college;
