This individual will be a member of the Internet Systems Services team within the Product Engineering Organization. This team operates Comcast's cross-platform services such as Caller ID on TV, as well as our Video On Demand navigation Infrastructure for over 24 million video customers and 4 million voice customers. This job involves the full range of activities necessary to deliver services on an end-to-end basis, from working with vendors, to developing new systems and network designs, implementing new designs, deploying new systems and software, performing day-to-day systems administration and operations activities, building or integrating reporting, monitoring, and analytics, etc.
Major Duties:
Function as a key member of the team responsible for the day-to-day, 24x7x365 on-call engineering, system administration, and operation of Comcast's Voice and VOD systems.
Provide review and input into the design of new technical features and architectural changes to the VOD and Voice messaging systems.
Perform Solaris and Linux operating system installation, upgrades, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting.
Perform application software installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting, including Oracle, Weblogic, Apache, etc.
Perform all Oracle DBA functions to maintain and troubleshoot critical Oracle databases with 24x7 high availability requirements: Optimize and tune all aspects of the Oracle architecture Automate and implement day to day Oracle DBA functions Provide production Oracle reporting capabilities for Sr. Managment Perform daily DBA support activities for the Oracle production Systems Manage Oracle table space requirements (Memory / Data / Indexes) Reorganize / defrag Oracle schemas and objects when necessary Perform and test Oracle backup and recovery policies and procedures Maintain oracle security and auditing policies and procedures
Help develop and implement a capacity model, total cost of ownership model and augmentation plan for the platform.
Participate directly in testing and planning to prepare for system upgrades.
Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution activities with other support teams (e.g. network support, NOC, vendors). Produce Root Cause Analysis findings that focus on recommendations to learn from and avoid problem recurrence.
Maintain productive relationships with peer organizations & vendors.

Required Skills: Required Skills/Experience:
At least 7 years of Oracle administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting experience in a large-scale (50+ servers), customer-facing environment.
WebLogic application experience
Creation of shell scripts to automate tasks and perform basic data analysis.
Demonstrated ability to stay organized while multi-tasking between several projects, and to adapt to change.
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Team player with professional work ethic and positive attitude.
Demonstrated ability to produce results with a minimum of day-to-day direction.
Demonstrated interest in continuing to grow professionally and learn new things.
Desired Skills/Experience:
Tools development in Perl, PHP, or similar languages.
Experience designing SQL database schemas and optimizing queries (Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, etc.)
Oracle RAC, DataGuard, Streams, and Golden Gate replication
Experience managing servers remotely in a distributed environment.
Experience operating and troubleshooting web application servers. XML experience is a plus.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent in work experience and self-study.
Advanced degree is a plus.
