Organization: Connecting Point is the point of entry into the homeless family shelter system for families who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. We do intakes and family interviews for entry into the family shelter system; provide eviction prevention information and assistance, crisis intervention, counseling, food, clothing and other resources. Single Stop is a new initiative at Connecting Point in which families will be screened for public benefits & provided support to ensure access to the benefits they qualify for.
Responsibilities
The Single Stop Family Advocate/Crisis Counselor works with families to ascertain their needs, provide support services, refer them to other resources, and to coordinate access to benefits; also provides supportive services to families in order to help them maintain permanent housing through our Rental Assistance Project. In addition to meeting with clients in the office, the Family Advocate conducts outreach (as needed) at community events & to affiliate programs.
Job responsibilities include:
Single Stop
•Complete intakes and assessments for Single Stop clients and facilitate referrals to partnering service providers.
•Follow-up with both clients and partnering agencies regarding referrals and outcomes.
•Ensure proper documentation of all client contact, referrals, and outcomes in computer database.
•Coordinate benefits by scheduling client appointments with legal and financial service consultants.
Rental Assistance Project
•Work with family to develop a service plan with concrete goals and assist them with eviction prevention financial resources available.
•Assess client’s needs and help identify obstacles to stability and areas for growth in maintaining housing
•Maintain regular contact with families through office visits and over the phone regarding housing stability
Client Interaction
•Provide drop-in services three mornings/week, including coverage of the front desk on a rotating basis;
•Record all intakes, family interviews, drop-in services and other relevant client interventions in the computer database;
Skills:
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Knowledge of social service resources.
4. Counseling skills.
5. Outstanding work habits: punctual, reliable, cooperative, team-oriented.
6. Ability to work independently.
7. Fluency in Chinese or Spanish.
8. Ability to maintain professional counselor/client relationships
9. Data entry and basic computer skills
10. Ability to work independently, while being part of a small team
