Young media company in Queens is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to fill the full time Editor position for its monthly Chinese life-style and travel magazine.

Primary Function:

• To set editorial directions and policies for a Chinese life style and travel magazine and to ensure the overall accuracy and integrity of the magazines with respect to their contents, layout, as well as the quality of production.

Job Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)

• To prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work;
• To read copy or proof to detect and correct errors;
• To allocate print space for story text, photos, and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using knowledge of layout principles;
• To plan the contents of publications according to the publication’s style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements;
• To verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources;
• To review and approve proofs submitted by composing room prior to publication production;
• To develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal;
• To oversee publication production, including artwork, layout, computer typesetting, and printing, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements;
• To confer with management and editorial staff members regarding placement and emphasis of developing news stories;
• To assign topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for coverage.

Skills:
Qualifications:

• At least 2 years’ experience working in publishing; experience in editorial work for life style/travel magazines desired.

Skills/Competency:
• Bilingual in both English and Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin), spoken and written (a must);
• Strong verbal and written communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills;
• Strong writing and editing skills;
• Strong project management skills;
• Excellent organization and prioritization skills;
• Strong understanding of internet technologies and trends;
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment;
• Solid integrity and devotion to team efforts;
• Creative thinking, pro-active approach, flexibility and positive “can-do” attitude;
• Ability to lead the production team and push the limits to meet the changing needs;
• Proficiency in using Chinese word processing software and typing in Chinese (traditional version).
