We are also a leading provider of reference and trade publishing for the medical, business, engineering and other professions.   McGraw-Hill Higher Education, (MHHE) is a leading provider of print and electronic materials serving the college market, publishing instructional materials including textbooks, lab manuals, study guides, testing materials, software, and multimedia products.   MHHE  has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Technical Operations in our Digital Technology Group in Dubuque, IL .    We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual who is eager to start or continue a rewarding career in education publishing.     The Director of Technical Operations will direct and oversee the current and future operational aspects of MHHE Digital Technology's technical infrastructure.    40% of time: Provide the primary point of contact for MHHE Digital infrastructure and system support in relation to GO&I, Customer Support, Engineering (Support and Development) for initiatives and business as usual operations.  Create and maintain configuration management/change management processes; system and application training; system and application performance/metrics; and support and infrastructure budgets.  Ensure systems, applications, infrastructure, and staff is able to respond to the business growth demands by maintaining high availability and reliability of current applications and infrastructure, while being able to trial and adopt new technologies. 20% of the time:  Develop an onsite and offshore team (i.e. employees/vendor) to implement and execute processes that will provide maintenance and support applications to the business and customer support needs.  20% of the time:  Ensure a comprehensive approach to proactively monitor for anomalies and trends within function, across functions, and systems to determine potential impact to network, service and customer experience with the ability to determine root cause and execute effective and expedient resolutions.  20% of the time:  Strategize, develop/execute, and maintain the overall MHHE digital product hardware and software infrastructure and technical architecture blueprint for Development, QA and Production environments. Serve as the primary point of contact to build and maintain relations with MH Corporate and MHE technology resources to leverage technical operations and engineering initiatives/knowledge to enhance MHHE Digital initiatives and performance.  Provide leadership and direction to the System's key operating leaders and collaborate with all cross-functional departments to ensure effective implementation of methods and procedures, to identify expedient and comprehensive solutions to customer impacting issues and to ensure attainment of profitability and growth objectives. Serve as the primary point of contact to build and maintain relations with MH Corporate and MHE technology resources to leverage technical operations and engineering initiatives/knowledge to enhance MHHE ·Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. ·Strong analytical skills, project management experience, and strategic thinking ·Experience architecting web infrastructure for scalability ·6 - 8 years experience as a systems engineer in installing, monitoring, and supporting various types of environments. ·3 - 4 years of network and hardware architectural experience. ·Experienced installing, configuring and supporting Weblogic, Apache, and Oracle applications. ·Minimum 3-5 years experience in Unix (i.e. Solaris) engineering and administration ·Experience with shell scripts, CGI, and perl scripting ·Knowledge of Network infrastructure a plus (routers, switches, hubs) ·Knowledge of Unix, Windows operating systems a must. ·Knowledge of DNS naming/Other Network components (3-5 yrs) ·UNIX performance tuning/System Administration (3-5 yrs) ·Knowledge of Veritas Volu
