Location: Newport News, VA   r n r n r n r n r n Position Summary: r n Translates Japanese to English (mainly) and English to Japanese (infrequently).  Translates technical documents, product drawings, work instructions and presentations.  Will also translate during meetings and phone conferences.  May provide administrative support for the department/division. r n Essential Functions: r n r n Translates faxes and distributes to the appropriate person(s) or department r n Translates written technical (e.g., CAD drawings, specifications, manuals, work standards, assembly job instructions, engineering change notices) and non-technical documents (e.g., letter, notes) from one language to another (e.g., Japanese to English, English to Japanese) r n Reads material and rewrites in Japanese or English, following established rules pertaining to factors such as word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics r n May specialize in particular type of material, such as correspondence, faxes, technical manuals, electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, reports or engineering specifications and changes r n Translates spoken passages from one language into another.  Provides consecutive or simultaneous translation between languages r n Attends meetings to serve as an interpreter.  May translate and distribute meeting notes r n Calculates mathematical conversions from r nJapan measurement system to r n r nUnited States measurement system r n Confers with engineering staff for clarification of technical content and specifications and resolution of problems r n Produces graphs and charts for technical manuals, correspondence, reports and productivity rates of translators r n Job Requirements: r n r n Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED with 1-3 years of written and verbal translation experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment r n Fluency in Japanese and English.  Must be able to read, write and speak both languages r n Strong technical knowledge base and analytical skills required r n Word processing and administrative skills r n Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Twin Bridges, AS/400 and Harvard Graphics desired r n r n r n To Apply: For prompt consideration, contact CTR’s Colleen SanCartier about: Japanese Translator
