Provide consultative advice to information system developers, application developers, and end users. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Serve as data base administrator in the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of complex information systems that utilize relational database management system software, such as Oracle and MySQL. Follow industry standards as they pertain to relevant information systems, e.g., Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA). 2.Utilize data base developer skills to design, troubleshoot, and optimize relational database management system code. Follow industry standards as they pertain to relevant information systems. 3.Provide technical assistance and support to other data base administrators, data base developers, application developers, and programmers. Solve complex problems. 4.Work closely with system administrators to effect tightly integrated information systems, including development, implementation, and maintenance of operating system based ancillary software such as shell scripts, cron jobs, etc. 5.Develop, implement, optimize, and maintain relational data base management system software backup procedures. 6.Develop collaborative professional relationships. 7.Participate in short-range planning and provide input to long-range planning. 8.Communicate sufficiently with Cincinnati Children's departments to make recommendations for improvements to information systems efficiency and effectiveness. 9.Participate in teams assigned to systems development. 10.Maintain global perspective in all Biomedical Informatics information systems so as to adequately represent the division in development and needs analysis sessions and to insure the best approach to resolving division needs. 11.Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature, and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the division. 12.Earn and maintain applicable certification. 13.Follow policies and procedures governing the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information. 14.Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, literature, and attendance at divisional meetings. 15.Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to division discussions. 16.Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at desired level of competency. 17.Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families. Attend required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including diversity training and Safety College. 18.Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within Biomedical Informatics. 19.These and other duties as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS: Possess expert experience with methods of analyzing, planning, programming, designing, testing, and implementing computer based information systems and technology. Possess expert knowledge of information systems, in particular relational database management system software administration, relational database management system software usage skills, relational database management system code development, and end user support. Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skill. Ability to relate to diverse age and demographic backgrounds. Demonstrate diplomacy, tact and a professional demeanor. EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in applicable discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Minimum 4 years' progressively responsible experience in a medium to large computing environment.
