Senior Personalization Engineer. You’ll work to improve the core of our product—a real-time optimization and adaptive-personalization engine. The challenges we’re tackling include contextual, behavioral and demographic targeting and text analytics – all this at lightning speed. Our system is cutting-edge, utilizing our proprietary cloud-computing analytics engine, and a runtime environment all distributed across 4 data centers covering the entire U.S. We’re still a small team, so there are tons of responsibilities and lots of growth opportunity. The most successful personality for this role melds theory with practice—the ability to conceive of, test and implement complex modeling techniques. Performance is a non-negotiable aspect of the system: we process, analyze and respond to requests in under 75 milliseconds and we re-analyze 100% of our terabytes of data on an hourly basis. Most importantly, you’ll absolutely love seeing the real-world results of your work—we make the shopping experience 100% personal, increasing (and measuring the increase) sales for our retail customers. is a Series B start-up in the works for over 2 years. Oh, and we’re kicking the butt out of collaborative filtering, in case you’re wondering. Our offices are in San Francisco. Qualifications: · MS/PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering · 3-5 years software development at a top 500 internet firm · Team player—it’s a small team, and at 1:00 AM, we eat pizza together! · Self-starter & fast-learner · Aggressive—we’re in it to win it! Core Experience: · Experience with machine-learning techniques o Neural networks o Naïve Bayes Networks o Association Rules/Collaborative Filtering o Decision trees o Support-Vector Machines o Lexical analysis · Experience analyzing, handling and managing data in a tera-scale environment o Search o Advertising optimization o Real-time targeting o Personalization/recommendations · Server side java development: Servlets, filters, etc. · Proficient in SQL (Postgres a plus) · Apache ant—it’s EVERYWHERE Additional Skills: · Academic research in personalization/search/machine learning · Familiarity with Linux (administrative skills a plus) o Configuration/administration of apache o Configuration/administration of tomcat · Performance testing and tuning experience · Hardcore developer · Team lead experience a plus
