Midtown Manhattan based technology company seeks a Director of Development with a minimum of 10 years of experience building scalable web-based applications. Specifically, we need a high-energy developer and manager capable of managing a small team of developers(PHP,HTML,Java), writing code as well as understanding architectural trade-offs, design-patterns, and proper modularization of key components in a rapidly-changing and quickly-growing new industry segment. To qualify, the candidate should: * Experience in designing, implementing and testing scalable N-tier database-backed applications * fluency in database design and SQL optimization * experience developing applications that will reside on an Apache / Tomcat infrastructure * be comfortable developing in dynamic, memory-managed languages / runtimes (such as Java / JVM) and be capable of picking up new modern OO languages quickly * have experience maintaining an API set built in XML-RPC * have extensive programming / scripting experience in one or more of the following: Perl, Python, PHP and JavaScript * be knowledgeable in web-based protocols and standards such as HTTP and HTTPs * be comfortable developing and optimizing in UNIX and specifically Red Hat Linux (this requires knowledge of: bash/perl, gcc, make and ssh) * At least 5 years management or team lead experience. Other Qualifications: * Excellent written and oral communications skills with demonstrated commitment to producing high quality documentation * Strong time management skills and proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet all schedules
