SCOPE: Perform functions to identify, research and evaluate new technology, and design and implement new or upgraded electronic systems, making decisions based on conclusions for which there is little precedent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Perform electronic and electrical component, circuit and board design. Receive assignment from Project Manager to design new electronic hardware system or upgrade existing system. 2. Maintain documentation while tracking the progress of the assigned project. Evaluate the project as it progresses ensuring its integrity with the initial purpose. 3. Develop and implement test plans, fixtures and tools for prototypes. Evaluate and document test results. Develop procedures for production of design. 4. Communicate with vendors regarding component parts and production standards. 5. Work with the compliance agency to gain acceptance. Sustain the product through ECN and engineering help. 6. Identify and evaluate new technology, determining how it may be applicable to the organization’s product line or operations. Conduct research on new technology, which may benefit organization and determine its capabilities and applicability to the organization’s product line. Make recommendations for acquisition of new technology when indicated. 7. Provide technical advise within field of expertise to other organization personnel as may be requested. Evaluate current processes and procedures, recommending and implementing changes where indicated and approved. 8. Evaluate Contract Manufacturer and other outside vendors prior to issuance of production order, ensuring their technology, capacity and quality control meet the standards of the organization. 9. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 1. Perform or assist with any departmental operations, as required or directed to maintain workflow and meet production schedules and requirements. 2. Maintain safe work areas and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules. 3. Recommend revisions to control documentation such as production checklists, operating procedures and policy manuals. Make and distribute authorized modifications as required. 4. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition. Perform other related duties as assigned. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: VOM, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Function Generator, Frequency Counter and TDR, plus various mathematical, graphic, electronic design and database software programs, computer and peripherals, and standard office equipment. 



 


Requirements



HIRING PREFERENCES: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required. MSEE preferred. 7-10 years of experience.. Background and experience in metrology, especially non-contact metrology, camera systems, and low power lasers is a plus.
