Job Overview:
ATMI is seeking a Senior Scientist/Technologist with a background in materials chemistry/ materials science to develop new products and create intellectual property focusing on electrochemical applications. In addition, this individual will help troubleshoot customer problems and provide solutions as a member of multiple product development teams. The Scientist will have a hands on laboratory approach; creative, think out of the box mindset; as well as have the ability to work independently and drive science to real products.  This position will report to the Manager of Advanced Technology Development and will be located in Danbury , Connecticut . 
Primary Responsibilities:

Lead and/or contribute to a project team to develop and evaluate proprietary adsorbents for gas storage, electrochemical power generation, separations, etc;
Meet technical project milestones and work with project/product managers to drive new products to market introduction;
Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal and external customers, partners and cross-functional teams around the globe;
Stay abreast of current technology advancements;
Represent ATMI at technical conferences;
Develop innovative technology and create intellectual property on new products and ideas;
Maintain safe working environment in a hands on materials development laboratory;
Ability to travel up to 15%.

Education/Experience:

M.S. or Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, electrochemistry, materials science or any other related field of study;
5+ years of research experience in emerging electrochemical technologies;
Interfacial science knowledge and experience with respect to gas/surface, liquid/surface, and/or solid/solid interactions;
Understanding of adsorptive materials as they relate to energy storage;
A successful track record of handling multiple projects/tasks at any given time;
Basic Taguchi screening and DOE methods;
A proven track record of innovation, new product development, and intellectual property generation;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to develop and present technical materials to internal and external customers.
