Title: Art Director (Sr. Associate Marketing & Communications) Req Number:  chmc-00023448 Department: Marketing & Comm Admin / 11-130100 Job Grade:  C-7 Start Time AM/PM: 8:30am End Time AM/PM: 5:00pm Work Shift: 1st shift Hours Per Week: 40 Salary: 27.62 - 46.03 Location(s): Cincinnati OH PURPOSE OF POSITION: To manage the design group. Includes brand identity management, design management, graphic design and art direction. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Manage the design group and its projects, both internal and external. 2. Provide art direction for major projects. 3. Develop concepts and implement design of strategic and corporate materials. 4. Manage the work of outside vendors and inside and outside designers. 5. Manage the consistency of the CCHMC brand. 6. Coordinate graphic design, layout, and all elements of production for print and promotional materials for the medical center. 7. Monitor/manage compliance with Identity Guidelines in development of collateral, signage, web, etc. for CCHMC. 8. Act as creative consultant for graphics for special projects, community events, and special events. 9. Supervise a graphic designer, production coordinator and a graphics co-op student. Responsibility for the recruitment, coaching, performance review and development of those direct reports. Promote teamwork and serve as a role model. 10. Design internal/external newsletters, magazines and brochures. 11. Design advertisements, as needed. 12. Interact with photographers, organizing/directing photo shoots as needed. 13. Respect patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information. 14. Provide services in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs of Cincinnati Children's patients, families and employees as determined by department management and Cincinnati Children's governing body. 15. Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross training, literature and attendance at department meetings and required Cincinnati Children's training sessions. 16. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions. 17. Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency. 18.Performs other duties as assigned or requested. REQUIRED SKILLS: Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic backgrounds. Must have well developed, proven leadership and strategic skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Deep knowledge of design principles and production processes. Expertise in traditional design production methods, techniques, and equipment. Excellent graphic design skills. Experience in web design preferred. Proficiency with software such as InDesign, Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, Experience with Dreamweaver,html and CSS. Knowledge of both PC and Mac platforms helpful. Excellent time management and organizational skills, and able to work under tight deadline and budget restrictions. Ability to design a wide variety of publications, including brochures, newsletters, flyers, invitations and booklets. Experience in working with production vendors and other designers. Supervisory experience. EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelors' Degree in Graphic Design, or an equivalent major required. A minimum of 7-10 years of experience necessary. Experience preparing files for print is essential. Healthcare or health-related experience preferred.
