McGraw-Hill Higher Education has an outstanding entry-level opportunity for an Editorial Assistant in our Career Education group. In this role you will provide administrative and editorial support for up to two editors in our Burr Ridge office. Essential responsibilities/functions include: Performing all needed editorial procedures, paperwork and follow-up associated with the acquisitions and publishing process. This includes, in part, processing and sending out contracts, checking requisitions, contributor payments, etc. Processing and logging-in manuscripts and preparing final manuscripts for production. Frequent contact with authors and contributors regarding projects; follow up on chapters, contributor agreements and permissions. Sending out contributor packages, reminder communications and independent follow-up in order to maintain schedules. Keeping up- to-date on the status of all projects for the purpose of answering routine inquiries, especially when editors are traveling. Interfacing with accounts payable on status of check requisitions. Maintaining and updating the editorial database Keeping book files current Interacting with a wide variety of in-house staff, including: editors, development editors, editing/design/production staff, marketing and sales staff, accounting and financial staff. Maintaining attendance records for the department. Requirements Bachelor's degree Administrative experience with proficiency in a full range of office responsibilities and a thorough understanding of standard office procedures and practices preferred Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and the Internet is required. Excellent organizational, communication (both verbal and written), and interpersonal skills required. Ability to organize and prioritize on a daily basis to meet the demands of 2-3 senior staff. Position requires ability to function independently on many routine tasks and assignments, and requires thorough follow-through.
