The Intake Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the referral process and assessments of youth for the Outpatient, EDTP, IOP and CARE programs and for providing counseling and therapy to youth and families when needed. The Intake Coordinator is part of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for providing information, strategies and a clinical perspective, along with promoting teamwork in the treatment of youth. The Intake Coordinator will be a liaison to outside agencies and personnel; DCF, hospitals, insurance/managed care, the legal system, private consultants, etc.

COMPETENCIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Functions as the contact person for all referral sources and gathers information to effectively screen referrals as to their appropriateness
*Maintain program specific demographic data bases regarding referrals
*Evaluates youth (for all programs in the Outpatient Psychiatric Services continuum) to determine appropriateness for admission, assess motivation of guardians and collect demographic and financial information
*Screens all youth for suicidality
*Creates Crisis plans with guardians to ensure for safety of referred youth
*Contacts providers already working with youth to inform of referral to our agency and to gather information and treatment recommendations
*Coordinates efforts with the business office to ensure effective communication with guardians regarding financial matters
*Obtains authorizations for admission to all program in the continuum from insurance companies
*Admits outpatient youth to services and orients youth and families to services
*Provides information to EDTP and CARE teams about referrals and candidates for admission so that those department can schedule timely admission appointments for the youth and families.
*Provides information that was gathered during the referral and evaluation to clinical therapists in all programs along the continuum about the cases to which they are assigned
*Ensure that legal rights of child are protected and incidents of abuse or neglect are reported to management/administrator.
*When referral process allows, the Intake Coordinator will provide individual, group and family therapy and will complete required documentation within established timeframes

Skills: To be successful in this position a person needs to be able to multi-task and develop relationships with a diverse group of people, both culturally and as a provider or a professional peer. A working knowledge of DSM IV and strong assessment skills and ability to assess the learning needs of clients and guardians and how these learning needs are impacted by culture, past experiences, cognitive abilities, etc. are crucial. Ability to engage clients in a therapeutic relationship in individual, family and group modalities of treatment. Ability to design and implement therapeutic interventions to promote positive change.
