More information about Thomson Reuters and its financial performance can be found on [link removed] The Thomson Reuters Communication Services (TRSC) team's primary focus is, but not limited to, Reuters Messaging which provides customers with mission-critical text messaging, persistent (stored conversation history) chat rooms, and presence capabilities. TRCS also provides a web portal application community site for financial customers. The service leverages Microsoft technology including Windows, IIS, SQL Server and SharePoint Server. The Thomson Reuters Collaboration Services team is also involved in researching and developing a wide variety of innovative collaboration solutions based on latest technologies.

Purpose:



Lead Software Engineers are responsible for the analysis, definition, design, construction, testing, installation and modification of properly engineered information systems, containing software as the major component, to meet agreed business needs. This position will have a focus on database development on Microsoft SQL Server.



Scope:

* Works on medium and large complex database projects that are enterprise wide and require the highest level of expertise and multiple technical disciplines.
* Work may involve leading and mentoring other developers (may be onshore or offshore
* Contribute key technical expertise, potentially global, which may have a direct material impact on Reuters reputation, and products.
* Working with on-shore and off-shore development, test and operations staff
* Accountable for a team's results, or for a project, and takes responsibility for the quality of work delivered. Sets timeframes and schedules to meet customer and business needs.
* Providing design recommendations, developing and integrating programs per written specifications. Responsible for writing moderate to complex design specifications.
* Translating business and technical requirements into detailed design specifications for application code and modules.
* Developing software application modules using disciplined software development processes.
* Provides assistance in researching new and emerging technologies. Works with vendors to understand technology. Evaluating new tools, technologies and platforms to be included.
* Ensuring project process is followed (assignment objectives, post assignment performance reviews, etc.)

Required Skills, Knowledge and Education:

* Minimum of 4 years development experience. Experience should include architecture and design responsibilities
* Requires in-depth experience and understanding of Microsoft SQL Server databases
* Understanding of database architecture, design, development and administration on Microsoft SQL Server / Windows platform.
* Hands on experience with designing scalability database solutions and performance improvements
* Experienced in Data Modeling, logical and physical database design, performance tuning of existing database applications and design of Backup and Recovery procedures.
* Has developed DTS packages and scheduled database tasks.
* Good understanding of Windows Server 2003. Microsoft Windows and SQL Server Clustering is a plus.
* Engaged in innovative concepts and programming techniques on how to develop high quality software and still maintaining shorter time to market (e.g. Agile and Extreme Programming (XP))
* High awareness of customer service
* Financial markets experience a plus
* Very Focused and Challenged
* Strong Communication Skills.
* Experience in.NET programming languages in .NET such as C# and VB.NET is a plus.
