John Deere Thibodaux is seeking a Welding/Tooling Design Engineer to implement new product designs and improve existing manufacturing processes. In this position, you will: Actively participate in Continuous Improvement, improving Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Delivery. Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses to create awareness of safe and ergonomic work practices. Develop fabrication and assembly processes and equipment for new and revised products. Analyze, specify, design, bid, procure, and implement production weld and assembly tooling for new and existing components and processes. Have significant emphasis on weld tooling design. Investigate quality issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Participate in PFMEA's and Control Plans. Apply mistake proofing methodology proactively to high risk processes as well as to processes that exhibit recurring quality issues. Develop and improve departmental Raw in Process and Point of Usage inventory locations, processes, and equipment to facilitate part replenishment. Develop and modify operator work instructions as required. Define and implement layout changes necessary for new product integration. Communicate product and process changes to peers and operators, and conduct training as required. Assist with the implementation of the Deere Production System and Deere Product Quality System initiatives as required. Implement 5-S into all areas of responsibility. Perform special projects as assigned. Education: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering/Technology discipline or equivalent experience. Required Skills and Experience: 3+ years experience in a Product Engineering role within a manufacturing environment or Manufacturing Engineering experience with emphasis in tool / fixture design. Solid analytic/problem solving skills. Proficiency in Pro/E or similar 3D modeling applications; previous focus on product or tool design. Knowledge and experience in fabrication and welding. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working within safety and ergonomic principles and processes. Project Management experience. Proficiency in MS Office suite. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Demonstrated experience/ability to work with cross functional teams and multiple levels within the organization. Desired Skills and Experience: Experience with heavy gauge metal in low volume applications. Knowledge and experience in machining. Knowledge and experience in assembly (Specifically heavy equipment/automotive). Experience in a team lead or supervisory role. Experience with Continuous Improvement initiatives. Experience developing and applying work instructions, including creating operator method sheets. 2+ years with significant involvement in introducing new products to manufacturing and/or assembly. General understanding of Lean Manufacturing / Toyota Production System. Experience with various virtual Engineering tools. (Line Balancing/Simulation, VisView/VisMockUp, Architectural Desktop, FactoryCAD, Vis/Classic Jack) Experience working with incentive-based compensation programs. Knowledge of Quality tools.
