Our professional publishing operations provide essential information and expert guidance in business, education, consumer, medical, scientific, and technical fields. We are looking for a Sponsoring Editor for our Science, Engineering & Math division of McGraw-Hill Higher Education located in Dubuque, IA. The Sponsoring Editor is responsible for the acquisition, development, and publication of products for Engineering & Computer Science. Responsible for achieving editorial quality and profitability for each title published under his/her sponsorship Negotiate contracts with authors and content experts for new and revised works. Create new publishing opportunities. Work with authors to produce high quality manuscripts that serve the needs of the instructors. Prepare strategies for each proposed product including P&L statements, schedules, product development plans and marketing ideas. Work with all appropriate company personnel to guide the timely and profitable publication of completed manuscripts. Supervise the training and job performance of staff. Work with senior editorial management to develop short term and long term goals for the publishing program in assigned discipline. Recommend formal marketing research activities for specific course areas and/or book titles. With the help of marketing managers, publisher's representatives, and other MHHE personnel, maintain an accurate information database of competitors and competitive titles in discipline. Function as the company's expert and leader in the textbook market for the assigned discipline. Maintain and strengthen working relationship with authors through frequent contact. Perform all other duties as assigned. Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years experience in college textbook publishing. Knowledge of Engineering/CS product/market preferred. Ability to be a team player, willing and capable of fostering cooperation among authors and all internal personnel for each title published. Effective communication interpersonal skills. Ability to set priorities; to plan, organize and control work flow; and to analyze situations and make decisions. Supervisory experience preferred.
