Business Unit: GE Infrastructure, Aviation Function: Finance Location: Cincinnati, OH Job #: 861332 Posted: Dec 03, 2008 Responsibilities The Senior Controller directs functional area of a major business segment. Translates concepts, develops strategy, and implements change. Creates programs responsive to external environment. Participates in cross-functional business and cultural development. * Advise business leaders regarding complex financial accounting and reporting issues and transaction structuring * Lead the businesses work in complying with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (particularly sections 302 and 404) * Lead the general accounting and payroll operations * Interpret and implement GE General Accounting Procedures (GAP) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles * Compliance focal point for accounting issues * Maintain accounting, financial reporting, financial control, and information systems to ensure adequate records, appropriate authorizations of transactions, and safeguard assets * Lead direct reports in general accounting (including certain treasury operations) and payroll organizations in support of organizational objectives * Initiate process improvements * Key contact for Corporate and external auditors Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance * At least 8 additional years of experience in an accounting position Desired * Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant * Minimum 10 years combined experience in public accounting firm of national repute and industry experience with a large multi-national firm * Ability to understand financials, business models and related controllership risks * Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, and leadership skills * Strong organizational skills - ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously * Ability to influence peers and senior leadership * Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve complex financial issues * PC proficiency General * Why join one great company when you can join many? ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Controller reports to the Global Controller of GE Aviation: * Provide technical accounting guidance on transactions -Review facts related to specific business transactions and provide the appropriate US GAAP accounting guidance -Review conclusions with business CFO, Global Controller and GE Corp. Accounting, where required -Document conclusions in technical accounting memos * Ensure appropriate documentation of accounting procedures -Document business specific applications and procedures related to accounting policies -Distribute accounting policies, as appropriate, to business finance and operational teams -Develop and provide accounting training, as necessary * Represent GE Aviation to GE Corporate Accounting on various technical accounting forums and task forces * Participate in review and feedback of GE Corporate Accounting policies * Work with KPMG and Corporate Audit Staff to resolve any technical issues identified during the audit.
