Sr. Mechanic
The Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) is a public agency located in Southern California dedicated to maintaining world-class leadership in wastewater and water resource management. OCSD operates and maintains the third largest wastewater treatment facilities west of the Mississippi River.
Under general supervision, the Senior Mechanic performs technical duties and responsibilities in the maintenance, repair, service, and troubleshooting of equipment and machinery in wastewater treatment plants and related facilities; performs predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment and machinery; and operates and maintains a variety of hand, pneumatic, and power tools and equipment.  Specifically, this individual will be responsible for performing mechanical maintenance and repair on primary, secondary, dewatering, or odor control equipment in the plant, including boilers, pumps, mobile and stationary engines, air and gas compressors, evaporators, scrubbers, blowers, belt filter presses, bar screens, augers and conveyor belts; performing complex predictive, preventive, and corrective mechanical maintenance by inspecting and cleaning equipment, in addition to troubleshooting cause of malfunctions using visual inspection and precision measuring and testing instruments; initiating paperwork outlining confined space entry procedures; reading schematic drawings to determine location and layout of equipment; isolating and tagging equipment to be worked on before performing mechanical maintenance; completing and logging daily work and service sheets; reviewing equipment service log book for previous comments or repairs on equipment; completing work orders for malfunctions identified during routine maintenance inspections; maintaining all records; ordering replacement parts to perform maintenance and repairs as necessary; and may be assigned to respond to a variety of wastewater emergencies on an assigned standby shift.
The successful candidate will possess an educational background equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the areas of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.  This position also requires three years of increasingly responsible experience applying preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance skills on field equipment as well as analyzing mechanical systems and processes.  The successful candidate will be able to work independently in the absence of supervisors; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.  A valid California class C driver’s license is required.  In addition, a Grade II Mechanical Technology Certificate from the California Water Environment Association is desired.

Salary: $28.23 - $34.31 hourly
