Under the direction of the CEO, the Risk Director has broad responsibility for the organization’s risk management activities. This includes administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, managing claims against the organization, interfacing with defense legal counsel, oversight of risk financing and insurance program, conducting risk management educational programs, and complying with risk management related standards by the Joint Commission and the State Department of Health, all with the objective of maintaining patient safety, enhancing quality care, and controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility. The Director of Risk Management has broad responsibility to protect the hospital’s assets and is responsible for coordinating loss control efforts and advising management and administration of all potential sources of loss and for making recommendations to minimize or eliminate exposure. The structure and functions of the Risk Management Program are designed to comply with guidelines and standards of JCAHO, AHCA, other regulatory agencies and the UHS T.E.R.M. Program. The Director of Risk Management reports to the CEO and is responsible for the management and supervision of the Risk Management Department

ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Director of Risk Management is directly accountable to the Chief Executive Officer.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has the responsibility of reporting incidents, patient and/or employee issues, work related accidents, and any other unusual events to the CEO while working with the associated Directors to resolve issues.

CONTACTS/INTERACTS WITH:
Patients, Family, Physicians and Staff

JXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Prefers a minimum of five years clinical or risk management experience, preferably in an acute care facility.

SPECIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment; Telephone/Overhead Paging System/Fax Machine/Calculator/Computer.
