The Certified Coder/Analyst identifies all pertinent diagnoses and procedures in the medical record: assigns codes, following established ICD-9-CM coding principles and guidelines as published in the American Hospital Association's ICD-9-CM Coding Handbook and determines appropriate sequencing of diagnosis and procedures to assure appropriate DRG assignment for maximizing hospital reimbursement.  The Certified Coder/Analyst also verifies and abstracts information for billing, statistical reporting and research.  Requirements include an Associate's degree, Coding Certification or RHIT/RHIA, at least one year's experience as an inpatient coder, familiarity with CPT, ICD-9-CM and Diagnosis Related Groupings.
