Click Here to Apply Online This intermediate position is responsible for the visual design of moderately complex, web-based user interfaces. Collaborates with other user experience professionals, technologists and business peers to align user needs with business objectives. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. Applies appropriate quality processes and standards. Tracks and makes recommendations for changes to prevent quality issues. Communicates changes in process. May recommend images to be licensed. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Develops initiatives given by management and leads self-directed initiatives that have strategic benefit. Jointly identifies projects and proposes potential approaches to management on majority of issues by presenting issue and potential solutions. Works on problems of moderate scope where analyzing situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Projects are enhancements to existing or new functionality for both internal and/or external user groups. Duties and Responsibilities: Research - Investigates and identifies user needs through: web analytic data, competitor and web industry research and user feedback. Conducts stakeholder and user interviews. Virtual Design - Designs on-brand pages with best practices, web conventions and standards. Represents the user by building applications and pages/flows that are easily completed. - Uses professional concepts. Has full understanding of company policies and procedures and good understanding of the industry practices Project Management - Manages multiple operational, tactical and larger projects simultaneously. Work priorities are reviewed by management. Works with project team to communicate regularly on topics such as: schedule, status and issues. Ensures seamless transition of project work to user experience peers and IT through implementation phase. Tracks and reports on the performance of the solution once it is elevated into the production environment. User Testing - Tests designs/flows in the formal usability lab to gather user feedback, report feedback, recommend changes and revise screens if necessary. May help to create and test usability scenarios to serve as basis for all design discussions. Relationships - Primarily within the experience design team but also strong collaborative relationships with business and IT to negotiate solutions for maximum efficiency. Contact may begin to span cross-functional areas. Knowledge, Skills and Experience: - Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience - 3-5 years visual web design experience - Prior experience designing for web sites or web applications, graphic design/digital media experience or interactive multimedia development experience - Understands the state of the current system including strengths and weaknesses - Demonstrates knowledge of insurance business - Working knowledge of the following technologies and software: HTML, XHTML, CSS, .ASP, JavaScript, Photoshop, Visio, PowerPoint, Flash, inDesign, Illustrator - Good communication skills, verbal and written as well as listening
