We currently have an opportunity for talented students to join a well resourced Biometrics Research department supporting Mercks drug development and discovery efforts. In this role you will work on electroencephalography (EEG) signal processing by implement algorithms from research papers help in evaluating the algorithms and write a final report.
Project Description:
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a nonintrusive way to measure brain activities. However EEG signals are subject to contamination from various sources. Therefore the algorithms to clean EEG from strong artifacts and interference are critical to reduce the data variance and to enhance the confidence of downstream analysis. Many EEG artifact removal algorithms have been proposed in the related literatures published in the past thirty years. The intern will implement in Matlab 2-3 selected algorithms based on available research papers compare their performance by testing on our EEG data and provide a recommendation in a final report.
This is a paid 10 to 12 week full-time Summer Internship targeted to start in June 2009. Housing and transportation to and from work are available for those interns meeting the housing distance guideline..
Pursuing a graduate degree in electrical engineering biomedical engineering computer science computer engineering or statistics. Students at the late years of a Ph.D. program are preferred.
Good understanding of the general concepts and algorithms of signal/data processing and pattern recognition.
Candidate must have strong Matlab programming skill especially in the area of signal and data processing.
Applicant must be enrolled in a degree program at the time of the application.
Applicant must be able to work on a full-time basis for 10 - 12 weeks during the months of June - August 2009.
