Include teaching of assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean, and in cooperation with the department chair; teaching a variety of child development/early childhood education courses which include lecture and lab components; supervision of students in child development labs and in off campus sites; participating in course and curriculum design, development of on-line courses; program review, student learning outcome development & assessment; serving on and participating in college/district committees; participating in student advisement; contributing through appropriate committee assignments; participation on local committees related to services for children and families; staying current on State regulations related to early childhood programs; otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required. Duties may include assignments in a variety of instructional settings, modalities (including on-line) and times, including evening, weekends, and may be on the Reedley College campus and/or off-site community campus locations.
Minimum Qualifications
Includes a Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or a Bachelor’s degree in any of the above and Master’s degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies or a valid California Community College Credential or the equivalent and demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
Include extent of preparedness to teach Child Development courses at all levels; extent of specialized training or experience in areas such as, infant-toddler, preschool, school age child care, after school (K-6) programs, young children with special needs; extent of knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum planning, and current research programs such as Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC); familiarity and extent of experience with organizations such as the California Training Consortium, Mentoring programs, California State Department of Education – Child Development Division, WestEd, NAEYC (National Organization for the Education of Young Children), and agencies that issues licenses and teaching credentials; extent of evidence of successful teaching experience in child development at the college level; extent of knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes; extent of experience in using technology in the instructional setting; extent of evidence of and commitment to working as part of a team; extent of demonstrated commitment to the goals and philosophy of the community college; extent of experience advising students on career goals in the field of child development; extent of supervisory experience; extent of experience writing grant proposals; extent of experience working with a diverse student population; extent of evidence of the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; extent of demonstrated potential for contribution to departmental vitality and growth.
