This position will be based in our Metairie, LA office covering jurisdictions in Louisiana as well as cases in Southern Mississippi. The House Counsel Attorney position is responsible for providing legal representation to Progressive insured's and/or the Progressive Group of Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels. Staff counsel also advises company employees in the handling of claims litigation matters. Prepares legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs, etc. Conducts examinations of legal and Claims records and consults with witnesses, insured clients, Legal Assistants, and Claims personnel in all phases of litigation. Prepares appeals and performs the necessary research on motions. Negotiates settlements with plaintiffs attorneys subject to authority extended by the Claims department. Also may perform non-trial work in addition to trial responsibilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: - Juris doctorate required. - At least 3 to 5 years of Insurance Defense experience required. - Prefer candidates with jury trial experience. - Strong communication skills. - Strong organizational skills - Must be licensed to practice law in the state of LA and MS.
