The HIV Health Science Associate will be responsible for developing and maintaining long-term relationships with national and regional medical thought leaders in academic institutions managed care institutions and in scientific organizations in order to achieve mutually beneficial goals in the therapeutic areas of importance to Mercks business. Identifies and develops national and regional advocates who communicate objective and balanced scientific evidence that is consistent with corporate positions during medical educational programs. Develops creative and innovative strategies for addressing the specific needs of key academic and managed care customers. Serves as a conduit for open communication between key thought leaders and Merck. Ensures participation and cooperation of national advocates in key Merck activities. Serves as scientific consultant to Merck field sales in specific situations where there is a significant impact on Merck business. This territory covers Southern California with most time spent in Los Angeles and San Diego. also covers Arizona and Hawaii. 30-40% overnight travel depending on where the successful candidate resides.

BS/BA required. Science or business discipline preferred. Minimum 3 years in or in combination of pharmaceutical medical device or biotech sales required. In-depth scientific knowledge of HIV or Infectious Diseases therapeutic area (both basic and clinical literature) preferred. HIV experience strongly preferred. Ability to communicate with and influence national thought leaders in an academic setting. Ability to analyze market data.
