Under general supervision the Welder/Fabricator, performs a variety of journey-level skilled welding functions in the field, and in the Rebuild Fabrication Shop. Specifically, this person will be responsible for maintaining, fabricating, modifying and repairing wastewater treatment plant equipment such as engines, compressors, pumps, mobile equipment, structural, and piping systems using welding techniques. Responsibilities include fabricating and installing structural and piping systems, reading blueprints and schematics, and drawing sketches. The successful candidate will perform and participate in confined space entries; repair and maintain tools and equipment; operate, monitor and maintain a variety of arc and gas welding equipment, power tools, and metal working equipment. Other duties will include record maintenance, and adherence to safe work practices and procedures. This position requires an educational level equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in welding and fabricating. Experience applying welding and fabrication skills in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment for a minimum of two years is required. Five years of experience is desired. The successful candidate will be able to perform a variety of journey-level skilled welding functions in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and piping systems; perform confined space entries using SCBA, and other personal protective equipment as needed; read and interpret blueprints and schematics; and adhere to safe work practices and procedures. The ability to perform strenuous physical labor and effectively communicate verbally and in writing is necessary. The ability to perform shift work, possibly including weekends and holidays is required. Possession of a valid class C driver’s license is required. Basic computer skills and the ability to safely operate equipment and power tools, including brakes, shears, rollers, iron workers grinders, sanders, and saws are required. Must be skilled in TIG, SMAW, and MIG welding, as well as the use of Plasma and Acetylene tourch cutting.
