In addition to the Business, Medical, and Technical markets, McGraw-Hill Professional is a publishing and content leader in Education and Test Prep and in Consumer categories such as health and self-help.   We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Director - Business and Finance , based in our New York City, NY office.   The Business division is a leading publisher of business books on management, leadership, investing, operations, and human resources, and all other business disciplines. Through its Financial Communications division, it is a leading provider of print and digital communications solutions for the financial services industry offering banks, funds and brokerages the high-impact marketing materials, financial education products, and electronic tools they need to successfully attract and retain customers.   This Editorial Director will be responsible for acquiring, developing and publishing a minimum of 20 books annually in the business books division of McGraw-Hill's Professional, specializing in the Finance and Investment markets. Target publishing areas include institutional finance and investing, as well as general investing.    Essential Accountabilities: Responsible for annual goal of signing 20 author contracts, The editor will have annual frontlist sales goal of  $2.6 million. Must be able to successfully negotiate author contracts, including advances, royalty rates, licensing, etc. The goals in negotiating each contract is to keep financial exposure/risk to a minimum, by offering advances well under the first year royalty payout as indicated on the P&L. Must stay abreast of finance/investment trends, issues, so that he or she will be well versed in the needs of the targeted readership and signing areas. Manage author relationships. Work with authors to finalize manuscripts, making sure that all projects adhere to the high standards of the division and satisfy the requirements set for the project when it was acquired.  Will be responsible for working closely with authors to develop and refine book content. Editor must prepare a profit and loss (P&L) statement on each project. Responsible for presenting books to the McGraw-Hill editorial board, at -pre-sales and web ex meetings, sales conferences, etc. The ability to develop manuscripts, making decisions on the content, direction, writing abilities of authors, etc.    Work closely with marketing and sales personnel to ensure that books meet the needs of the target markets. Work closely with EDP to fulfill publishing plan deadlines.   Minimum of ten years of related editorial acquisitions experience. Bachelor degree required. Knowledge of the professional finance/investment book market, publishing and the acquisitions process.  Strong communication skills. Demonstrated successful business negotiation and partner management skills. Demonstrated contract negotiation and implementation skills. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage collaboration across internal departments-product, financial, marketing and   operations-and supervise external resources.
