Corporate Information Management oversees the operations of the Corporation's technology infrastructure, ensures the security of its data and its computing environment, information architecture, and establishes and promotes company-wide best practices in the development, management and support of the Corporation's application portfolio. The Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) has been established to assist The McGraw-Hill Companies' (MHP) Business Segments and Corporate areas in generating a consistent approach and language to project management, and to develop a community of skilled project managers who share tools, techniques and knowledge. Reporting to The McGraw-Hill Companies' Chief Information Officer, the EPMO operates as part of the Corporation's overall PMO structure and drives business value of projects by promoting and monitoring project execution and portfolio excellence. The EPMO's primary function is to support and monitor the Corporate and Segment project and application portfolio to: A? Determine that projects selected for execution are consistent with the company's portfolio goals and strategy A? Maximize the probability of success and transparency of project delivery. A? Coordinate and liaise with all business segment to oversee global application development, application support and maintenance, and strategic enterprise projects and activities Additionally, the EPMO supports the utilization of offshore resources for development and application maintenance and support. The EPMO mentors business units in the selection and management of offshore resources, enabling them to focus on The McGraw-Hill Companies' core business competencies. Working with the EPMO staff and representative from each of The McGraw-Hill Companies business segments - S&P, Education, Information & Media and Corporate - liaise and coordinate activates to complete the following projects: i. Contingency staff project - this is an initiative in 2009 to transition from many resource suppliers to one provider (who may sub-source some of the work), for contingent labor. We need to put measurements, structure and reporting in place as one of the key activities in moving from the old process to new. ii. EPMO intranet website freshening - the EPMO posts information about current activities, standards, etc. with links to info that we also maintain on SharePoint. iii. SharePoint document repository re-structuring and cleanup - as mentioned above, the EPMO makes great use of SharePoint. The structure and content within SharePoint can run the risk of either becoming stale, duplicative of other info and/or not organized in the most appropriate manner. An analysis, recommendation and clean up of these directories is in need. iv. HP Portfolio Project Management (PPM) System - working with key PPM support pesonnel across all business segments to assistance in developing consistent policies and procedures to better utilize the tool capabilities. This includes coordinating meetings and documenting recommended steps and activities across all business segments. v. Involvement with process improvement activities; including the identification, design, development and documentation of recommendation to improve the operational capabilities of the EPMO to support the business segments in project management and oversight.
