Essential Functions of Position
Teach a full range of community college reading courses; communicate effectively with students and staff; develop curriculum and participate in the program review process; attend and participate in appropriate professional meetings and workshops, serve on college and district committees, and otherwise fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required. Duties may include assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening, weekends, or off campus.

Minimum Qualifications
Include a Master’s degree in Education with specialization in reading or teaching reading or a Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline and twelve semester units of course work in teaching reading and a Master’s degree in English, literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, composition, comparative literature, TESL, or a valid California Community College Credential, or the equivalent education and/or experience and demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications.
Include extent of teaching experience in developmental reading at the secondary or post-secondary level; extent of knowledge of current reading theories, pedagogies, and critical thinking skills; extent of experience working with students of various ages and cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds; extent of knowledge in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes; demonstrated ability to take a collaborative role in developing and presenting student and faculty-based reading workshops and conferences; extent of experience in computer-assisted instruction and other instructional technologies; extent of related work and professional experience; extent of knowledge of current tutorial theory in reading; extent of knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals; potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and preparation for and interest in teaching community college student
