Merck Research Laboratories in Boston MA is offering a summer internship for undergraduate student to learn and new subjects and methods used in cutting-edge oncology drug discovery and target validation. Interns will have the opportunities to interact with scientists who have expertise in various oncology drug discovery subjects work on developing presentations and scientific writing skills



Interns will support efforts on generation of inducible knockdown of target genes in context dependent cell lines. Summer interns will also validate the results of knockdown using various assays including western blotting quantitative PCR. In addition interns will monitor the levels of pathway targets in vitro in cell lines. Interns will help to develop cell lines engineered to express inducible inactive mutant proteins as a part of target validation efforts and conduct cell viability and cell growth/proliferation assays. Interns will also help to construct GFP fusion proteins to show intracellular distribution of target proteins in context dependent cell lines.
The internship will begin in June 2009 and continue for 10-12 weeks. The intern will receive a weekly stipend. Housing is available for those interns meeting the housing distance requirement.Pursuing BS/BA degree in biological sciences and related field.
Candidate must have experience on cell and tissue culture techniques and delivery of expression vectors into mammalian cells.
Candidates with familiarity with recombinant DNA technology techniques are preferred
Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time degree program at the time of application
Applicants must be available to work on a full-time basis for 10 - 12 weeks starting the month of June 2009.
