John Deere Phoenix Division is seeking a Motor Control Staff Systems Engineer to determines design approaches and parameters, analyzes and simulates requirements., and selects or designs components, equipment and suppliers based on system specifications and reliability requirements.  In this position, you will:
 

Design, develop, and evaluate electric motor and motor control systems for customer specific mobile vehicle applications.
Work closely with other project team members as needed to ensure the final system has compatible software, electronic hardware, and mechanical hardware which functions properly together and performs at levels specified in the product specifications.
Work with Manufacturing Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Supply Management and Quality Assurance on Cross-Functional Teams as needed to optimize designs for cost, quality, and manufacturability.
Design cost effective products that meet customer required features and functions as well as the established reliability and quality requirements.
Interact with executives and/or major customers. Interactions may involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading others.
Review documentation necessary for product development generated by other engineering groups and verifies this documentation is sufficient for product design.
Maintain design documentation for review by other engineering personnel.
Establish design parameters and ensures system design comply with Design Validation Specifications and Product Specifications.
Work with Manufacturing Engineering and outside suppliers as needed to ensure manufacturability.
Travel as needed to accomplish the tasks required of this position, including meeting with customers to generate and/or revise concepts and product requirements.

Education  

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Advanced Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering strongly desired.

Required Skills and Experience

Comprehensive knowledge of electric motor control drive products and systems including motors, generators, DC/DC, AC/DC and DC/AC converters, inverters and power electronics.
Solid understanding of motor control methods and theory.
Knowledge of and ability to define total motor control systems including generators, motors, loads, harnessing and on-vehicle and maintenance tool interfaces.
Ability to optimally size and select components and the ability to configure and integrate the complete motor control system.
Ability to model and simulate electric motor drive systems
Ability to adapt motor and motor control hardware, software, and mechanical packaging to mobile equipment applications.
Experience with either the hardware design (power semiconductor characterization and detailed circuit analysis and modeling, including thermal modeling) or the software design (motor control algorithm and software development for brushless DC, induction and switched reluctance motors) of motor control systems.
Ability to plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. 
Ability to perform assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. 
Ability to lead the work of other engineers or technicians as assigned.
